SUNDAR KAND POOJA SAMAGRI KIT

Sundar Kand Puja Samagri: Sacred Items for a Devotional Ritual

Sundar Kand Puja is a highly revered ritual in Hindu tradition, dedicated to Lord Hanuman and based on the Sundar Kand chapter of the Ramcharitmanas, written by Goswami Tulsidas. This particular chapter glorifies the strength, devotion, and wisdom of Lord Hanuman and is believed to remove obstacles, fear, and negativity when recited with devotion. Performing Sundar Kand Paath or Puja at home or in a temple requires specific samagri (ritual items), each holding spiritual and symbolic significance. The arrangement of this puja samagri ensures a proper and complete offering to the deity and creates a divinely charged atmosphere suitable for chanting and prayer.

The primary item in the Sundar Kand Puja is a picture or idol of Lord Hanuman, preferably in a posture that depicts him carrying the Dronagiri mountain or bowing before Lord Rama. This is placed on a clean cloth or altar. The Hanuman ChalisaSundar Kand text, and other related scriptures are essential for reading during the puja. Ganga Jal (holy water) is used to sanctify the space and purify the surroundings. A diya (lamp), typically filled with pure ghee, is lit to invoke divine presence and symbolizes the light of knowledge and devotion.

Roli (vermilion) and chawal (unbroken rice grains) are used for tilak and offering, while sindoor (vermilion powder) mixed with oil is especially significant in Hanuman puja, as it is believed to please Lord Hanuman immensely. Flowers, especially marigold and red hibiscus, are offered in devotion, while garlands and sacred leaves like tulsi are placed near the idol. Incense sticks (agarbatti) and dhoop are used to purify the air and uplift the spiritual energy. Fruitsdry fruits, and sweets, especially besan laddoos or boondi, are offered as prasad, as Hanumanji is fond of them.

red cloth, often used as a seat for the deity or to wrap the offerings, and a small kalash (metal pot) filled with water and adorned with mango leaves and a coconut, are also part of the setup. Panchamrit, made from milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee, may be used for abhishekam (ritual bathing). A bellconch shell (shankh), and camphor (kapoor) for aarti conclude the puja.

Collectively, these items make the Sundar Kand Puja complete, ensuring that devotees can perform the ritual with devotion, focus, and the right spiritual atmosphere to seek blessings, protection, and divine strength from Lord Hanuman.
