Tirumala Tirupati Puja Samagri –
The Tirumala Tirupati puja is a devotional offering performed in honor of Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, at the sacred Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh, India. Devotees perform this puja either at the temple or in their homes to seek blessings for health, wealth, and spiritual fulfillment. The samagri (puja items) used during the Tirumala Tirupati puja holds deep spiritual significance and must be gathered with care and devotion. The main idol or image of Lord Venkateswara is placed on a clean, sanctified altar or platform. A kalash (sacred pot) filled with pure water, mango leaves, and a coconut is kept near the idol, symbolizing the presence of divine energy. Devotees use ghee lamps (deepam) and incense sticks (agarbatti) to purify the surroundings and create a serene spiritual atmosphere.
Key samagri includes kumkum (vermilion), haldi (turmeric), chandan (sandalwood paste), akshata (rice mixed with turmeric), and flowers—especially tulsi (holy basil) leaves and lotus, which are highly favored by Lord Vishnu. Panchamrit, made with milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee, is prepared and used for abhishekam (ritual bathing of the idol). Additional abhishekam items include pure water, coconut water, and scented oils or rosewater. Fresh fruits, sweets like laddu or payasam, and dry fruits are offered as naivedyam (sacred food offering) to the deity.
During the puja, a bell, conch (shankha), and small brass or silver utensils are used for performing aarti and offering water, food, and other elements to the Lord. Betel leaves and areca nuts, camphor, dhoop (resin incense), and mouli (sacred thread) are also essential components. If a havan (fire ritual) is performed, havan kund, havan samagri, cow ghee, and wood sticks (samidha) are used. Vishnu Sahasranama books or slokas are read aloud as part of the puja, invoking divine energy through sacred sound.
This samagri list is used not only to complete the ritual correctly but to honor Lord Venkateswara with devotion and purity, aligning the devotee’s mind, body, and soul in spiritual connection. Whether performed at home or during a pilgrimage to Tirupati, each item in the Tirumala Tirupati puja samagri serves to deepen the devotee’s surrender, gratitude, and reverence for the Lord.
