Kast Nivaran Puja is a Hindu ritual aimed at eliminating obstacles, misfortune, and negative energies from one’s life. The puja is performed to seek divine blessings for removing hardships and bringing peace and prosperity. The samagri used in this puja is integral to invoking positive energies and ensuring the success of the ceremony. The central item in this ritual is Ganga Jal (holy water), which is sprinkled around the space and on the participants to purify the environment and invoke blessings. A kalash (sacred pot) filled with water, mango leaves, and topped with a coconut represents the presence of divinity and is an essential part of the setup.
Kumkum (vermilion) and turmeric (haldi) are used for marking auspiciousness and for the ritual offerings. Akshata, a mixture of rice and turmeric, is placed near the kalash and sprinkled around the puja area, symbolizing prosperity, protection, and spiritual growth. Incense sticks (agarbatti) and dhoop are lit to purify the atmosphere, while the soft glow of a ghee lamp (diya) is maintained throughout the puja to keep away darkness and negativity, inviting divine energy into the space.
Flowers, such as marigolds or jasmine, are offered to the deity to represent devotion and to create an atmosphere of peace and reverence. Betel leaves and betel nuts are commonly offered as symbols of respect, while fruits like bananas, coconuts, or seasonal offerings are presented to signify abundance and gratitude. Red cloth, often used to cover the kalash or the altar, adds a layer of sanctity and protection during the ritual. Chandan (sandalwood paste) is used to anoint the deity or the altar, symbolizing purity and calming energy.
A sacred thread (mouli) is tied around the kalash, and sometimes the wrists of participants, to invoke divine protection and blessings for the removal of obstacles. If the puja involves a havan, then havan samagri such as herbs, ghee, and wood is used for the sacred fire, enhancing the purification and energizing effects of the ritual. The priest may also use sacred mantras and holy books to invoke the divine powers during the ceremony. All these materials, when used with devotion and care, create an atmosphere of spiritual healing, helping to remove obstacles and bring harmony into the lives of those involved in the Kast Nivaran Puja.
