Buddha Puja, the devotional practice of paying homage to Lord Buddha, involves the use of specific offerings and materials collectively known as “Buddha Puja Samagri.” This sacred collection of items plays a crucial role in Buddhist rituals, symbolizing purity, devotion, and the path to enlightenment. The core essence of a Buddha Puja lies in the symbolic offerings that represent the Buddha’s teachings and the devotee’s respect and gratitude. Fruits and food items denote generosity and the nourishing of body and soul.

In many Buddhist households and monasteries, Buddha Puja is conducted daily or on significant lunar days such as full moons or Vesak (Buddha Jayanti). During the ritual, devotees recite mantras or sutras, bow in reverence, and make offerings before a Buddha idol or image. The arrangement of the samagri is done thoughtfully, often on a clean altar, which serves as a focal point of spiritual energy and mindfulness. While the traditional items remain similar across various Buddhist sects — such as Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna — regional customs and materials may vary. For example, in Tibetan traditions, torma (ritual cakes) and butter lamps are commonly used. Some modern practitioners also include symbolic items like prayer beads (mala), incense cones, and herbal offerings.

In contemporary times, ready-made Buddha Puja Samagri kits are available in spiritual stores and online platforms, making it easier for urban practitioners to observe rituals. These kits generally contain all essential items and instructions for proper usage. However, the emphasis in Buddhism is not on the opulence of the offerings but the sincerity of the heart and the mindfulness during the ritual. Ultimately, Buddha Puja Samagri is more than just ritualistic material — it serves as a medium for inner transformation, discipline, and connection with the Dhamma (Buddha’s teachings). It is a timeless expression of reverence that aligns the devotee’s mind with compassion, wisdom, and peace.
