Ghat Sthapana is an important Hindu ritual that involves the installation of a sacred pot, or kalash, which is believed to invite divine presence during various religious ceremonies. The puja samagri used in Ghat Sthapana plays a vital role in ensuring the sanctity and success of the ritual. The central element of this ceremony is the kalash, which is typically made of metal, clay, or copper and is filled with clean water. The pot is adorned with mango leaves placed around the opening and topped with a coconut, signifying prosperity, fertility, and divine protection. The kalash is considered a symbol of the goddess Lakshmi, representing abundance and wealth.

Along with the kalash, the puja thali includes other essential items like kumkum (vermilion), turmeric (haldi), and chandan (sandalwood paste), which are used for offering prayers and marking auspiciousness. Akshata, rice mixed with turmeric, is sprinkled over the kalash and used in other parts of the ritual to ensure purity and blessings. Incense sticks (agarbatti), dhoop, and camphor are lit to purify the surroundings, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. The presence of a ghee lamp (diya) is crucial, as the light symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and invites divine energy into the space.

Flowers, particularly marigolds or lotus, are offered to the deity or placed around the kalash to further enhance the sanctity of the ritual. Fruits, especially coconuts and bananas, are also presented as symbols of abundance, and they represent the offering of one’s worldly possessions to the divine. Betel leaves and betel nuts are included as part of the offering, symbolizing respect and devotion. A sacred thread (mouli) is tied around the kalash or the wrists of the participants to invoke protection and blessings.

If the ceremony includes a havan or fire offering, additional havan samagri such as herbs, ghee, and wood are used in the sacred fire. Ganga jal (holy water) is often sprinkled around the space or used to purify the kalash, and holy books or scriptures are read or chanted to invoke divine blessings. The arrangement of these samagri creates a serene and auspicious environment, ensuring that the Ghat Sthapana puja is conducted with devotion and spiritual significance.
